A Watch Presenting A Cosmic Journey With Twelve Meteorites, Granting a Guinness World Record Title
Louis Moinet is an independent Swiss watch brand known for its high-end timepieces that combine art, and innovative technology, paying homage to “Louis Moinet”, the master watchmaker, artist, and astronomer, who invented the chronograph in 1816, making him the official holder of the title "World's First Chronograph," as recognized by Guinness World Records.

The brand offers a range of watch collections, including the “Mechanical Wonders” Collection with many complications including tourbillons, chronographs, and other intricate mechanisms with artistic aesthetics. The “Tempograph spirit” with a retrograde seconds hand that performs its choreography 4,320 times a day and instantly resets to zero ,and the "Tempograph Chrome", with a unique 20-second retrograde mechanism .
Their latest release, the Louis Moinet Cosmopolis, represents a leap forward in their fascination with meteorite dial; this timepiece has earned its place in the Guinness World Records for “the most meteorite inserts in a watch." This accomplishment underscores Louis Moinet's pursuit of innovation and their commitment to crafting timepieces that defy tradition in the world of horology.
The appellation 'Cosmopolis' melds "cosmo," signifying the boundless cosmos, and "polis," representing the rich artistic vitality of cities, a tribute to the profound interplay between our terrestrial realm and the limitless expanse of the universe, encapsulating the intrinsic connection that exists between our world and the infinite cosmos.
The “Cosmopolis” represents a seamless continuation of the Swiss watchmaker's previous meteorite-themed models and embodies Jean Marie Shaller's personal fascination with meteorite collecting. What sets this timepiece apart is its incorporation of twelve different cosmic rocks over the watch dial. Each hour marker on the dial features a distinct meteorite, creating a celestial journey for the wearer, extending to the center of the dial and even behind the tourbillon complication.
Encased in a 18k rose gold brushed and polished case that measures 40.7mm in diameter, and a domed sapphire crystal on the front unveiling the intricate beauty of the meteorite fragments, and a sapphire crystal on the caseback, with openworked lugs and 30 meters of water resistance.
The Louis Moinet Cosmopolis offers a nice visual narrative, where time subtly emerges with meteorites, compelling the observer to embark on an exploration of a cosmic microcosm. The dial serves as a stage for a celestial theater as each fragment of meteorite has been placed, creating a unique constellation. In the center is the rarest stone of all, the” lunar meteorite” which has been ejected from the Moon during the past 20 million years and has been found near Dhofar, Oman. Additionally, a black chondrite resides within the tourbillon cage at, pulsating the heart of the mechanism, and serving as a poignant reminder of the cosmic forces that have shaped our universe.
Ten additional celestial fragments are thoughtfully positioned, each mounted on discreet bases against the brushed dark-gray dial. These celestial gems bear witness to the origins of our solar system, each containing a billion-year-old story that traces the journey of fragments from the moon and Mars, discovered in Dhofar, Oman. They also include remnants from meteorite showers found in Mexico and Costa Rica, as well as materials sourced from asteroids located in China, Russia, Mexico, Algeria, Namibia, and the Sahara Desert. These elements coexist with the skeletonized hour and minute hands, filled with luminescent material, and a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock enhancing the watch's overall allure.
Under the sapphire crystal caseback lies the manual-winding caliber LM135 movement, distinguished by its innovative "volte-face" system where two barrels are arranged upside down, releasing their energy at the same time, delivering a power reserve of 96 hours. The watch is paired with a black alligator leather strap, secured by a 18k rose gold pin buckle.
