A Tribute to the 1979 Le Mans Victory
The universe of high-end watchmaking often intersects with other realms of luxury and skill, but perhaps no other pairing is as harmonious as that of fine timepieces and motor racing. LAURENT FERRIER, the prestigious Genevan watchmaking house, underscores this seamless amalgamation with their latest creation — the Sport Auto 40.
Reliving the magic of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Sport Auto 40 is not merely a watch; it's a piece of motor racing history strapped to your wrist. The new edition pays tribute to François Servanin and Laurent Ferrier, the founding duo who remarkably placed third in the overall rankings of the 47th Le Mans in 1979. This milestone in motorsports is immortalized in a watch whose dial captures the colors of their legendary Porsche 935 Turbo No. 40.
The gradient viridian green dial featuring an opaline finish and a semi-glossy lacquer immediately captures attention. Accented with fuchsia and green transfers, and augmented with orange Super-LumiNova on white gold indexes and hands. As a nod to its racing lineage, a discreet "40" sits on the opaline white small seconds dial at 6 o'clock, rounding out the dial's allure.
Sport Auto 40 perfectly encapsulates the aesthetics and aerodynamics of racing cars. The watch's 41.5 mm diameter grade 5 titanium case is elegantly paired with an integrated grade 5 titanium bracelet, promising both robustness and comfort. The bezel sports a circular satin-brushed finish that deftly contrasts with the mirror-polished sides and vertical satin-brushed case middle.
Further accentuating the Sport Auto 40’s unique blend of form and function, the iconic ball-shaped crown is not merely a design element; its ample proportions also make it remarkably user-friendly when winding the self-winding movement. With water resistance up to 120 meters, the watch is crafted to accompany you both on and off the racetrack.
Driving the Sport Auto 40 is LAURENT FERRIER’s LF270.01 calibre. As a testament to the brand's ingenuity and craftsmanship, the calibre has been entirely designed, assembled, and adjusted in-house. With over 139 manual finishing operations and a power reserve of 72 hours, this resilient calibre incorporates a Swiss pallet escapement and a unique off-centered micro-rotor self-winding system.
True to LAURENT FERRIER’s meticulous standards, each component of the movement undergoes rigorous hand-decorating processes. The sapphire crystal case back reveals this remarkable craftsmanship, featuring multiple finishes from satin-brushed to ruthenium-treated bridges, culminating in a visual spectacle that will captivate aficionados of traditional haute horology.
Priced at 51,000 CHF (excluding tax), the Sport Auto 40 is available as a limited edition of 40 numbered pieces. Enthusiasts and collectors can exclusively acquire this unique timepiece through the LAURENT FERRIER website.
