Two timepieces with exceptional aesthetics for DWW 2023
In conjunction with this year's Dubai Watch Week, Ming is unveiling two captivating special editions that showcase the brand's distinctive approach to timekeeping. The first is the "29.01 Dubai Edition," a watch that ingeniously weaves together continents, countries, and cities into its indices, offering a truly exceptional horological experience. The second is the "Sand 37.08" watch, a timepiece that captures the undulating desert waves, mirroring the golden embrace of the sun on its dial. Notably, this edition omits the customary additional layer of sapphire crystal, revealing a design departure from our accustomed expectations.
In early 2023, marking four years since the debut of the brand’s 19.02 Worldtimer, Ming unveiled the 29.01 Worldtimer. This release marked the introduction of Ming's new 29 series. Ming now unveils the special edition Dubai Worldtimer for Dubai Watch Week, bringing new aesthetics while retaining Ming's exceptional design.
The Dubai Worldtimer is encased in a 40mm x 11.9mm grade 5 titanium case that merges with the top crystal, eliminating the need for a conventional bezel and resulting in a visually striking and harmonious design. The sapphire dial, adorned with HyCeram ceramic Super-LumiNova fill, features cities and indices in Arabic, adding an elegant touch that pays homage to the region's rich culture and heritage.
One of the standout design elements of this timepiece is the sapphire hands, which seem to float above the 24-hour disc that is also filled with Super-LumiNova. To address the previous edition's critique about daylight saving time (DST), Ming introduced a third ring on the dial. This ring serves to differentiate cities that observe DST, featuring an offset marker that indicates the time in these zones.
Much like its predecessor, the Dubai version of the 29.01 Worldtimer is powered by the Schwarz-Etienne for Ming calibre ASE 222. This movement boasts bi-directional automatic winding through a micro-rotor crafted from tungsten, with 70 hours of power reserve. Notably, the movement's bridges are coated with rose gold, adding a touch of luxury. The watch comes with an Elastogator strap made from 100% rubber-based material with a stainless steel tuck buckle. The Ming 29.01 Dubai Edition is limited to just 25 pieces. It is priced at CHF 22,000 which is equivalent to AED 91,000.
The Ming 37.08 Sand, is the second watch in this article sharing an identical look and specs with the 37.07 Monolith. However it captures the undulating desert waves, mirroring the golden embrace of the sun on its dial.
The watch boasts a slim 38mm stainless steel case, with a thickness of 10.9mm, it strikes a balance between form and function, just as its predecessor. The case's narrow bezel is adorned with a blend of polished and brushed finishes, adding an elegant touch to its overall design. The comes with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating that graces both sides, providing a clear view of the dial and the movement.
The dial of this timepiece draws inspiration from the ripples of the golden sun on windblown powder, soaring over the vast desert landscape, featuring Super-LumiNova X1 coated hands in a luminous light gold shade, adding a touch of elegance to this exceptional timepiece. Ming's design team examined photographs of dunes, waves, and wave propagation theory to translate these natural elements into a captivating 3D texture on the dial. To achieve this design, Ming employed a relief tool to carefully stamp brass dial plates, which were then subjected to a series of treatments, including coarse-blasting, galvanization, and the application of a colored lacquer, resulting in the sandy hue that we witness. Eschewing the conventional sapphire layer, Ming incorporated laser-hollowed markings directly onto the top crystal, filling them with the customary HyCeram for both durability and visual impact.
The 37.08 Sand is powered by the manually-wound Sellita SW210.M1, a Monopusher chronograph with lateral clutch, with anthracite openworked bridges featuring contrast rhodium circular brushings, boosting 40 hours of power reserve. The Ming watch comes complete with a leather strap crafted by Jean Rousseau Paris, equipped with curved bars that feature a quick-release mechanism for effortless strap changes. The strap is fitted with a 3rd generation tuck buckle with micro adjustment. The watch is priced at CHF 3,950 which is equivalent to AED 16,400.
