A bronze case Inspired by a 1957 prototype designed for the U.S. Navy
Bulova is an American watchmaker founded in 1875, it is best known for its introduction of the world's first fully electronic watch. During its early years, the brand underwent significant changes in leadership and management until it was acquired by the Citizen Group in 2007. This year, Bulova celebrates its 150th anniversary with the MIL-SHIPS 150th Anniversary Editions.
Inspired by a rare prototype developed for the U.S. Navy in 1957, the watch features a 41mm CuSn8 bronze case with a sandblasted finish reminiscent of vintage diving helmets. It is fitted with a double-domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, surrounded by a bi-directional aluminum bezel in either blue or green. Over time, the bronze develops a natural patina, which enhances the watch's character while also protecting the case from degradation. The caseback is embossed with commemorative 150th-anniversary markings and an engraving of an old diving helmet, while the watch offers 200 meters of water resistance.
The dial is available in blue or green, both featuring a bi-color moisture indicator strip, a vintage-inspired handset, and applied indices, all coated with luminous material for enhanced readability in low-light conditions.
Powering the watch is the Citizen-owned Miyota 83S0 automatic movement, which operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers a 60-hour power reserve.
